Olympics: Brilliant Bolt storms to third 200 gold

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 19, 2016, AFP – Usain Bolt wrote another chapter of improbable Olympic history with a third consecutive 200m crown on Thursday.

Bolt, who just days earlier had become the first man in history to win three 100m titles in a row, surged to victory in the 200m in 19.78sec at the Olympic Stadium.

Canada's Andre De Grasse took silver in 20.02sec, just ahead of France's Christophe Lemaitre, who nicked bronze in 20.12.

Bolt's triumph was greeted with rapturous applause by Brazilian fans who roared their appreciation as the sprint superstar set off on a lap of honour, with Bob Marley booming from stadium speakers.

The win left the 29-year-old Bolt just one win away from his targeted "triple triple" -- a repeat of his sweep of 100m, 200m and 4x100m golds at he 2008 and 2012 Games.

"No, I can't grasp what I've achieved, definitely not," said Bolt.

"You work so hard for years and then you just hope it pays off. It is a brilliant feeling.

"I'm getting older and my body is ageing. Personally I think this is my last 200 but my coach may beg to differ."

Bolt will attempt to put the seal on what he says is his final Olympics in Friday's 4x100 relay.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Ariya Jutanugarn shot even par in the second round of the Rio 2016 women's golf tournament, and fell four shots behind Inbee Park of Korea and three shots behind American Stacy Lewis.

Lewis fired a spectacular eight-under par 63 while Park shot 66 in the Rio heat.

Ariya, who led after the first round with six-under par, failed to better her score on Thursday, and will have to overcome eight of the world's best women golfers to regain the lead and take gold on Saturday (early Sunday Thailand time).

Ariya will tee off first in the third round at 5.30pm Friday (Thailand time). She will play with Chun In-Gee of Korea and American Gerina Piller.

The Bangkok native started off Thursday as she finished the previous day, with a birdie on the par-5 first hole. She instantly lost that advantage with a bogey on the second hole.

She later matched birdies on holes 6 and 18 with bogeys on holes 5 and 16 to finish with even par.

The other Thai in the tournament, Pornanong "Waew" Patlum of Chaiyaphum, fell another shot back Thursday.

Pornanong, who had an even-par 71 on the first day, struggled on Thursday to finish one-over par, and lies in 38th place in the event.
