The royal cremation ceremonies for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej are scheduled for Oct 25-29 with the cremation proper to be held on Thursday Oct 26, which has been declared a public holiday.
Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Tuesday the cabinet had acknowledged the five-day ceremony and approved Oct 26 as a public holiday to allow the people to take part.
On Oct 25, a royal merit-making rite will be held to mark the start of the royal cremation ceremonies in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace.
On Oct 26, the body of the late King will be moved from the throne hall to the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang where the royal cremation will be held.
Work on the royal crematorium, seen in front of Wat Phra Kaeo and the Grand Palace, is 60% completed. It is the site for the funeral of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
On Oct 27, following the cremation, a royal ceremony will be held to collect the royal relics of the late King at the royal crematorium.
On Oct 28, a royal merit-making rite for the royal relics will be held in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.
On Oct 29, a royal ceremony will be held to enshrine the royal relics at the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall at 10.30am, and the ashes of the late King will be kept separately at Wat Rajabopit and Wat Bowon Niwet, winding up the five-day ceremony, Lt Gen Sansern said.
The cabinet also acknowledged a post-royal cremation exhibition is planned from Nov 1-30, to be organised by the Culture Ministry. King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away on Oct 13, 2016.
