Plural forms are easier to pronounce than you might think.

English teachers here in Thailand tend to spend a lot of time in helping their students master plural forms of English nouns. That, of course, is that Thai has a very different way of expressing the plural and it does not add "s", "es, etc. to the end of words.

Most of the pronunciation practice is done with single words, but, in the real world, of course, words go into sentences. This often makes the pronunciation easier, not harder.

Listen and read

Let's listen to and read an example from today's story on the seizure of forest land in Nakhon Ratchasima. There are four plural forms in the sentence: "officials," "title deeds," "irregularities" and "documents".

Notice the the plural endings receive no stress. In fact, they may be a little hard to hear. So, when you read, relax and don't work too hard.

Notice also, that in two cases ("irregularities" and "documents") , the plural forms blend (mix or link) withthe next word. This happens when the following word begins with a vowel. Listen carefully and it should sound like "irregularity zin" and "document sin". Listen several times and then try to read the passage yourself. In other words, you are the news reader.  The audio file is just above the vocabulary list.)

The NCPO would petition the PACC to investigate all officials who may have been concerned in the case to find those responsible for issuing the title deeds for the Sung Noen land despite the obvious irregularities in the documents involved.
