WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?
While visiting the Komodo National Park in the Eastern Indonesia, named after the famed giant lizards, a Singaporean tourist was staying with locals in an area located outside of the safe area where tourists usually remain to safely observe the giant lizards.
The 50-year-old tourist ignored warnings to keep his distance from the giant lizards and not to get too close while he was taking photos of the giant lizards.

The tourist was reportedly "watching several Komodos eating pigs and goats belonging to villagers."
"He approached the animals to take pictures, ignoring locals' warning that he should not go too close" (Source: Jakarta Post here).
Then, as he was taking photos, a giant lizard bit his leg (see photos at bottom of page).
With a bloody wound, the tourist was promptly rushed quickly to a medical treatment facility by a military speed boat where he received medical treatment for the wound.
The incident occured in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province.

BEWARE THE GIANT LIZARD
Native to a small group of Indonesian islands, Komodo Dragons are the world's largest lizards and have venomous bites that can be deadly.
Komodo dragons don't like to be disturbed while eating.
When people receive one of their poisonous (toxic) bites, if medical treatment is not received quickly, it is possible to die from a Komodo Dragon bite.
KOMODO DRAGONS NOT THE SAME AS THE FAMED LUMPHINI PARK LIZARDS
The monitor lizards found in Lumphini Park in downtown Bangkok look a lot like Komodo Dragons but are actually a different species of lizards, a monitor lizard, Asian water monitor or the official Latin name Varanus salvator komaini, or the black water monitor also known as the black dragon (เธกเธฑเธเธเธฃเธ”เธณ, เน€เธซเธตเนเธขเธ”เธณ, เธ•เธฑเธงเน€เธเธดเธเธ•เธฑเธงเธ—เธญเธ).
