KMITL to present river promenade plan next week

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) will organise an information session on the riverside promenade project this month.
Sakul Hovanotayan, associate professor at KMITL's Department of Civil Engineering and the project's manager, said Monday the session will be held on April 22 to gauge the opinions of residents who live along the Chao Phraya River.
He was speaking to update progress on the "Chao Phraya for All" feasibility study being conducted with Khon Kaen University.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has contracted the two universities to conduct the study along a 57km stretch of the Chao Phraya River's banks, from the Rama VII Bridge to Bangkok's outskirts.
Parts of the riverside have already been rehabilitated. This is a walkway through Bank of Thailand property.
The so-called New Landmark of Thailand project stretching 7km along each side of the river between the Rama VII and Somdet Phra Pinklao bridges is a pilot project under the study.
Mr Sakul said the initial design of the 14km promenade will be presented at the session.
He said the feasibility study will focus on the rehabilitation and landscape of the river, adding the project's budget also will be explained this month.
A satellite map displaying geographical features along both sides of the river was also completed. Hydraulic engineering and hydrology have been considered in the design of the promenade.
As for the promenade's architectural features, Mr Sakul said KMITL, as the project's consultant, is gathering opinions from residents in waterfront communities to ensure structures are built according to their requirements.
Two other sessions will follow the initial one. Design options for the promenade will be presented in June and results of the feasibility study in September, he added.
Antika Sawadsri, the project's spokeswoman, said consultants have met residents in 32 communities to explain the project.
