An independent review of the autopsy report of the construction tycoon Chuwong Sae Tang, who allegedly died in a car crash in June last year, has suggested the billionaire's death was not an accident.

Two bones in Chuwong's neck were broken due to impact caused by a hard object, the Medical Council of Thailand (MCT) revealed Monday.

SUSPICIONS THAT DEATH WAS NOT ACCIDENTAL

Following the death of Chuwong, it was revealed that his signature was on papers transferring shares and cash to two young women, one of whom was a stockbroker, four days before the tycoon's death.

There have also been also allegations that the signatures on the share transfers were forged (see discussion of issue here).

The transactions raised suspicions of Chuwong's wife and children that his death may not have been accidental.

Chuwong's family had asked the MCT to review the initial autopsy findings from the Police General Hospital's Institute of Forensic Medicine. The family said the autopsy report was incomplete, with crucial details missing.

MCT president Somsak Lolekha said the council referred the report to the Royal College of Pathologists of Thailand, which set up a special panel to examine the autopsy report. Forensic experts were also invited to analyse the report.

FINDINGS OF EXPERT PANEL

What had caused Chuwong's eyes to bleed was one question raised by Chuwong's relatives.

The bleeding was found to be caused by impact from a hard and blunt object.

A chin wound was found to result from his chin scraping on a rough surface.

The panel also found the sixth and seventh neck vertebrae were broken as a result of an impact from a hard and blunt object.

The second and third vertebrae, however, are the vertebrae most often broken in accidents.

The panel could not say what object broke the bones.

The findings will be handed to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) in the next few days.

CSD deputy chief Pol Col Nos Sawetlek said the cause of death is still unclear.
