Thaksin tells his men 'just stay put'
18/08/2014
Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had one major bit of advice for the politicians who went to see him in Hong Kong last week - to keep their heads down [maintain low-profile] for now, stay put and let the military run the country unhindered, Post Today Online reported, quoting a political source.
The source said Thaksin was in Hong Kong last week and was visited by a number of politicians, including former MPs and cabinet members, as usually happens whenever he travels to a country near Thailand.
Thaksin reportedly appeared calm and did not give any political instructions to his visitors.
"In a situation like this, we must let the soldiers do their work to their best capability.
"Time will prove everything. Everyone of us must cooperate with them without putting up any obstruction, because in doing so we could be blamed if they fail to succeed," the source quoted Thaksin as saying.
According to the source, Thaksin believed the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) would be in power for about one year as promised because it was under a lot of pressure, including from economic problems.
On political reform, Thaksin was of the opinion it would be hard for the NCPO to achieve its goals, but he did not elaborate, the source said.
On legal cases in which politicians in his camp are involved, Thaksin said it would be good if they could reach an out-of-court settlement, the source added.
