Mourning the loss of Sayan; remembering his first hit

(Learning Thai) The death of Luk Thung star Sayan Sanya has prompted an outpouring of grief and good memories. Khru Cholathee reflects on his loss and we take a look and listen to Sayan's first hit "Police Chief's Daughter''.

นายสมนึก ทองมา หรือ ชลธี ธารทอง ศิลปินแห่งชาติ กล่าวภายหลังจากที่ทราบ สายัณห์ สัญญา ลูกศิษย์เอกเสียชีวิตลง ว่า รู้สึกช็อคและเสียใจจนใจหาย ตลอดทั้งเจ็บปวดและเศร้าใจจากการจากไปของ สายัณห์ ซึ่งเป็นลูกศิษย์เบอร์ 1 ของเขา เป็นลูกศิษย์คนแรกที่ปั้นขึ้นเมื่อปี 2516 สายัณห์ เคยเป็นหางเครื่องวงดนตรีของผ่องศรี และอีกหลายๆวง รวมทั้งเคยเป็นเด็กปั๊มน้ำมันด้วย มีอยู่วันหนึ่งขับรถเข้าไปจอดในปั้มน้ำมันแถวบุคคโล เพื่อไปเข้าห้องน้ำ และก็ได้ยินเสียงเด็กคนหนึ่งกำลังร้องเพลงขณะล้างรถอยู่ ซึ่งเมื่อได้ยินน้ำเสียงที่เขาร้องเพลง ก็รู้สึกว่าเสียงของเขานั้นแปลกดี แปลกแบบมีเสน่ห์ หลังจากเข้าห้องน้ำเสร็จจึงเดินไปหาเด็กคนดังกล่าวพร้อมกับสอบถามว่าสนใจที่จะไปเป็นนักร้องหรือเปล่า และก็ชมเขาว่าเสียงดี ซึ่งเด็กชายคนนั้นก็ตอบทันทีว่าอยากเป็นนักร้องมากในที่สุดเขาก็ได้เป็นนักร้องลูกทุ่งสมใจ

สำหรับเพลงที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับสายัณห์ เป็นเพลงแรกเลยคือเพลง ลูกสาวผู้การ ในสมัยนั้นหมุนคลื่นวิทยุไปคลื่นไหน ก็จะได้ยินแต่เพลงลูกสาวผู้การ นับว่าเป็นเพลงที่ดังมากๆ เป็นที่ชื่นชอบของคนไทยทั้งประเทศ

Khru Cholathee sad to lose his first student Sayan

Khru Cholathee mourns for (his) first student and dubs (him) 'Emperor Singer'

Mr. Somnuek Thongma or Cholathee Tharnthong, a national artist, said after learning the death of Sayan Sanya, his first student, that he was shocked, extremely sorry, even stunned and was in agony over his passing. Sayan was his number one and his first student he that he molded back in 1973. Sayan had been a dancer in Phongsri's Band and many others groups as well working as a gas station boy. One day when Cholathee pulled into a petrol station in Bukkhalo to use the rest room, he heard a boy singing while washing a car. When he heard the tone of his voice, the song master felt that it was a strange king of voice -- charmingly strange! After he left the rest room, he walked to the boy and asked if he was interested in being a singer and told him that he had a very good voice. The boy replied that he very much wanted to be a singer and he eventually became a luk thung singer as he wished.

The first song that brought him to fame was 'Police Chief's Daughter - Luk Sao Phu Kan'. At that time, whenever you tuned in any radio frequency, you'd definitely hear the song Luk Sao Phu Kan. It was regarded as a big hit. It was the favourite of Thais throughout the country.

พ่อเธอรู้กลัวโดนไล่ออก กลัวโดนออกเอาเสียง่ายๆ    (If) her dad finds out, (I'm) afraid I'll be fired -- afraid I'll be fired easily

ได้แต่ผวา เรามีค่าแค่เพียงเม็ดทราย    ...Can only be scared. I'm only worth a grain of sand

บังอาจรักลูกสาวเจ้านาย โชคจะร้ายแล้วซิหนอเรา    Dare to love the boss' daughter, ah, I'm going to be in for bad luck!
   
อยู่ป้อมยาม ได้แต่มองจ้องเธอทุกครา    From the sentry box, (I) can only watch her every time

เมื่อไหร่หนอเธอจะผ่านมา ได้เห็นหน้าพอได้คลายเหงา  When is she going to pass by so I can see her face to ease (my) loneliness?

นั่งฝันจนเพ้อ โถนี้เธอจะ รู้หรือเปล่า    Sitting dreaming till (I'm) delirious. Alas, I wonder if she knows.

พลตํารวจผู้น้อยอย่างเรา หลงรักเจ้าลูกสาวผู้การ  A lowly private like me is crazy over the police chief's daughter
   
โปรดเมตตา ผมเถิดหนาท่านผู้กํากับ    Please have mercy on me Chief, please.

ใคร่ครุ่นคิดจนนอนไม่หลับ นอนไม่หลับเพราะความฟุ้งซ่าน    Immersed in thought all through the night; not a wink of sleep because my muddled state

ไม่กล้าเผย ขอเป็นเขยของท่านผู้การ    I don't dare to ask if I could be the Chief's in-law,

เงินเดือนน้อย ด้อยทั้งการงานไม่อาจหาญ ไปปองดอกฟ้า    (With)  a small salary and low-grade job, (I) don't dare to aim for a high-ranking womanl.
