Floods can sock Thailand anytime during the rainy season, and with this in mind Yi Nang Industry Co Ltd has introduced its floodgate locally in a bid to tap business and homeowner demand.
Yi Nang Industry Co says its floodgate can be assembled by one person in 10 minutes and is 100% guaranteed watertight.
Danny Huang, the engineering assistant manager at Luxy Import Export Corporation Co Ltd, a joint venture between Yi Nang and Thai partners, said the company headquarters was set up in Thailand five months ago to tap a perceived opportunity.
"Taiwan has many typhoons that spawn flash floods, as it's a monsoonal country," he said
We've introduced our floodgate in Thailand, as there are many firms that need to protect their property from flooding.
The patented Hercules Floodgate comprises panels of 25 centimetres in height and up to to 5.5 metres in width that can be stacked to the required height, fastened together by C-shaped poles.
Rubber foam lines the edges of each panel to make a watertight seal.
The company lists six critical elements of an effective floodgate.
1. An underseal built into the ground to prevent leaks.
2. Side-pressing nuts to ensure a total seal along the edges.
3. Down-pressing nuts acting with the underseal to ensure a complete seal.
4. Indoor and bathroom drain hole treatment.
5. A lightweight and easy-to-assemble modular design for easy storage.
6. Meeting professional flood containment tests as demonstrated through live presentations.
"Our floodgate can be assembled by one person in 10 minutes thanks to its lightweight design. The panels can be removed and reinstalled depending on the situation and so will not be unsightly," said Mr Huang.
Mr Huang said the product is 100% guaranteed watertight, plus it withstood the test of Typhoon Nari, which struck Taiwan in 2001.
Price depends on order volume.
A house wanting the floodgate at its main entrance and requiring a width of two metres and a height of 1.5 metres would have to pay 67,200 baht.
"Many firms are interested in our product such as Siam Cement, which plans to install our floodgate at one of its factories in Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate. Residential units choosing our product are in the high-end segment," he said.
The product can be installed to protect a variety of properties - logistics, warehouses, factories, power stations, convenience stores, private residences, banks, underground car parks and elevator entrances.
Luxy Import Export was established in Thailand in February with registered capital of 3 million baht, while Yi Nang Industry has operated in Taiwan for 25 years.
