Family rocketed into YouTube fame: Forgot to lock the door

The little family that soared to international fame after their adorable children interrupted a live BBC World News interview with their father, has given their first interview.

In a Wall Street Journal interview they answer all the eager questions the world has for them and their cute children.

Immediately after the now legendary news segment aired the family was inundated with phone calls, messages and interview requests.

They tried hard to lay low and maintain a low profile but finally threw in the towel and agreed to answer the many questions of their eager fans.

AFRAID THAT LAPSE IN PROFESSIONAL DECORUM HAD COST THEM DEARLY

Robert E. Kelly, who is an associate professor of political science at Pusan National University in Korea and his wife Kim Jung-A told of their own personal reaction to the little accident on world TV.

"We laughed a lot, but still we were worried a little bit more," according to Kim Jung-A.

"We were worried actually that the BBC would never call us again. That was our first response – mortification that we had completely blown our relationship with you,” Dr. Kelly told the BBC.

She had not realised that her children had wandered into the family's home office, where the interview was taking place, until she saw them on TV.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Kim Jung-A and her daughter were eagerly watching TV in another room as the interview in the home office began.

Four-year-old Marion was very excited to see her father on TV and jumped up and down in delight when she saw her father on the screen.

She apparently recognised the home office on TV, so logically she started off down the hallway to find her father.

As he usually does, the little toddler James, Marion's 8-month-old little brother, followed his sister in his baby walker, always curious and eager to see what his big sister was doing and join in the fun.

The rest is history.

SWAGGER AND GOOD MOOD

Many in the worldwide audience had been taken by swagger of the daughter Marion, age four, swung open the door and marched up to her father's desk.

It turns out that the father, like the mother, first learned of the daughter's intrusion from TV when he saw his daughter behind him on the worldwide television broadcast.

The daughter Marion had just celebrated her birthday at Kindergarten earlier in the day, so "she was in a hippity-hoppity mood that day because of the school party," according to her father.

WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY

Professor Kelly has been making television appearances for six years, but this is the first time anything like this has happened, in what some have humorously called "the greatest moment in the history of television, ever."

Perhaps it is the collapsing of so much over great time and space.

The "shif shif shifting sands" of globalisation.

Going from the intimacy of a small family home in Korea to the globalised airwaves of BBC News that reach into every home and business around the world.

A globalised circuit of communication that swings back to the very small family home where the interview took place.

The funny incident is perhaps emblematic of the great divide between this public media world and the intimate world of family life.

The funny incident might also point in the direction to a new type of reality television show and genre that breaks down this barrier that the viewing public is clearly so fascinated with.
