A prankster cruelly targeted two teenage schoolgirls who were applauded for saving an injured dog at a busy intersection, calling up their school and falsely promising them admission to a university.
The management of the Veterinary Science Faculty of Mahidol University on Thursday denied reports it would admit Wannapa Manakan, 15, and Oranaree Janyok, 16, of Hatyaiwittayalai 2 School to the faculty as a reward for their rescue of a dog hit by a vehicle at Poh Mor intersection on Kanchanavanich Road in Hat Yai district of Songkhla on Monday.

The director of the girls' school, Thanomsap Noonnoi, confirmed the hoax. She said a person had earlier called her, claiming to be an associate professor and deputy dean of the faculty, and offered the two girls admission.
Mrs Thanomsap said she had been too delighted with the offer to take note of the name of the caller. She had, however, contacted the person several times after the first phone conversation, and also saved the phone number.
After the faculty denied the offer, Mrs Thanomsap said, she could not contact the caller anymore. She apologised to the faculty for spreading what she thought was good news.
The school management would fully support to the two students, who helped the dog with pure hearts without expecting anything in return.
Provincial Police Region 9 and the Zoological Organisation have already presented scholarships worth altogether 8,000 baht to each of the teenagers. The zoo organisation also donated sports gear to their school.
