A video of a Burger King employee struggling with a burning Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has quickly gone viral.

The Burger King employee was seen wearing an special oven glove to avoid being burned by the burning phone.

The burning Note 7 at Burger King has quickly become a symbol that encapsulates the corporate public relations (PR) crisis that Samsung currently faces over its troubled smartphone.

The video has been viewed nearly one million times since it was posted on the video-sharing site on Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The YouTube video, shot on a mobile phone by a customer, shows a Note 7 smouldering with smoke rising from the phone.

The burning phone sits next to an empty food basket on a table at a Burger King outlet in the South Korean city of Incheon.

The phone owner and customer has apparently fled the scene of the fire.

A Burger King worker wearing large heat resistant gloves struggles to remove the burning phone from the table but it drops to the floor, causing shrieks among onlookers.

The worker eventually manages to pick up the phone with both hands and walks away from the table, which is scarred with a black, charred mark.

A Samsung spokeswoman confirmed that the device in the footage was in fact a Note 7 without elaborating further.

The manager of the outlet told an online news website Wikitree that the store had requested compensation from Samsung for the damage to the table.

GLOBAL HALT TO SALES

The video was posted two days before Samsung announced a global halt to sales and exchanges of the Note 7.

Samsung told customers worldwide Tuesday to stop using their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones as it struggled to contain a snowballing safety crisis that threatens to derail the powerhouse global brand.

The South Korean conglomerate called a halt to worldwide sales and exchanges (returning defective product to store to get a new non-defective one) of the troubled phone.

Samsung advised all customers with an original or replacement Galaxy Note 7 to "power down and stop using the device" immediately.

The US consumer protection regulator, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, issued an alarming warning of the possible dangers the device posed to its owners, their families and homes.

The bad news slammed Samsung's share price, which plunged as much as seven percent in afternoon trade.

EARLIER RECALL

Tuesday's announcement came a little over a month after the world's largest smartphone maker announced a product recall of 2.5 million Note 7s in 10 markets in early September following complaints that its lithium-ion battery exploding while charging.

The unprecedented move has turned into a public relations PR disaster for the company, which prides itself on innovation and quality.

The situation only worsened when reports emerged a week ago of replacement phones also catching fire.

Consumers prefer brands like Samsung and Apple because of product reliability so  brand damage and loss of consumer faith will be inevitable.
