Thai fans were optimistic about Siripuch's chances after the sudden withdrawal of Taiwan's world-record holder Lin Tzu-chi, allegedly for a failed drug test, but it in the end, she couldn't quite manage it. Here is the story from Reuters:

RIO DE JANEIRO, Reuters — Gold-medal hopeful Siripuch Gulnoi fouled out of the 63kg weightlifting event early Wednesday in a disappointing finish.

Siripuch lifted 108kg in the snatch, but failed to make a clean lift in any of her three attempts at the clean and jerk.

Deng Wei of China won the event with a total lift of 262kg - 115kg in the snatch and 147kg in the clean and jerk.

Choe Hyo Sim of North Korea (248kg) and Karina Goricheva of Kazakhstan (243kg) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Boxing: Amnart knocked out

RIO DE JANEIRO, AFP – Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha scored a TKO victory over Amnat Ruenroeng early Wednesday, putting the last professional boxer out of the Olympics.

The 36-year-old Amnat, with a chequered background, was a medal favourite on the Thai team.

His loss came in the round-of-16 bouts late Tuesday and early Wednesday (Thailand time).
