Selfies 2.0 or 3D selfies: Shrink your family & friends

Lifelike little 3D figurines or dolls of family and friends may be the next craze for the selfy-obsessed.

If you can imagine a selfy in three dimensions (3D) that can sit on your desk, that is what the future holds.

Once selfies move to this 3D level there will, of course, be opportunities for even more selfies, selfies of mini-you, mini-you with mini-girlfriend, mini-wife, mini-baby or mini-pet or even selfies of the real big-you with mini-you and so on, ad infinitum.

3D FIGURINE FACTORY IN KOREA

Small 3D sculptures that actually do look like a mini-me or mini-you are already being produced at a special factory in Seoul, Korea.

Bleeding edge 3D printing technology is used to make the lifelike figurines.

At five special photo studios in Seoul, Korea, one enters special booth filled with 100 cameras that take photos from all angles.

The photos are then sent to a special factory in Seoul.

At the factory the photos are transformed by computer programs into instructions for a 3D printer.

The 3D printer then builds a figurine in your image by building up 1,000 layers of gypsum powder to capture every little feature of the real you, but on a reduced scale and size.

Figurines range from 5 centimeters to 30 centimeters in height.

The company is named Ioys, a 3D figure printing startup aunched in 2014.

The most basic 3D mini-me figurine will cost you 110,000 won (3,500 baht or $100).

Although an exciting new technology like this is sure to spread quickly, right now you have to travel to Seoul in South Korea to get one one these intriguing new figurines made.
