Civil servant apologizes for calling gas station worker "ugly creature"
A civil servant in Yasothon received a flood of criticism and threats from internet users after he posted photos of a fuel pump attendant at a gas station on his Facebook page.
He then wrote a rude, condescending message about this young woman he had never met before.
Pongsak Kensing, a finance officer for Yasothon's Kor Wang district, posted the photos he took at a PTT station in Maha Chana Chai district on Monday, and wrote:
"News Highlight: I came across a strange and rare creature because it works in shifts. #What an ugly human being? #How dare it be born?"
The post quickly went viral and social media went on overdrive.
Many net users slammed Mr Pongsak for judging a person just by their appearance.
POSTED HER PHOTO ONLINE WITHOUT PERMISSION
He also was criticised for taking photos of the woman without her consent and posting them online.
"He's a civil servant and looks mature. He should know much better. The place he works for should consider firing him already," a Facebook user wrote.
Some netizens even visited the PTT gas station in Maha Chana Chai to give support to Nong Namtao, the victim in the photos.
They said that Nong Namtao broke down in tears when she was made aware of the post.
FIRST HE LIED & SAID HE DIDN'T DO IT, THEN HE APOLOGIZED
At first, Mr Pongsak did not apologise and claimed that his Facebook page was hacked and he was not responsible for the post.
No one believed him.
On Wednesday morning, he bowed to pressure from the social media community and went to meet Nong Namtao at the gas station to apologise.
He later posted a message, saying: "I hope this issue ends today."
But it didn't, Mr Pongsak might be seeing Nong Namtao on the movie screen soon.
INVITED TO AUDITION FOR ROLE IN MOVIE
Well-known film director Poj Arnon, after learning about Nong Namtao's unpleasant experience, wrote on his Instagram that he wanted to invite Nong Tamtao to a casting audition.
"Don't feel sorry about this, Nong Namtao. We cannot choose how we look but we can choose to do good deeds. If you're interested to play in a movie, come to the audition. If you can act, you're in."
"Don't judge a person by their look or shape. Look into the person's heart. Send me a clear photo of you in this comment box. I just need a new actress," Mr Poj wrote.
