Loud sounds of wood hitting the backsides of employees at a Chinese bank can be heard in video showing punishment for poor performance at a training session.

A video that shows a public spanking of staff at a Chinese bank for poor performance during a training session has gone viral online.  

The video sparked outrage within China that some employees had to put up with such bad treatment and humiliation in their job.

In the video there are four rounds of spanking.

Most employees retain a stoic silence, not even flinching when the thick piece of wood arrives at their buttocks.

The repeated loud sound of "whack! whack! whack!" can be heard interlaced with angry words from the trainer.

The woman standing at the end of the line recoils in pain when the piece of wood hits her.

The man in charge, a course trainer, administers the spanking but first orders in Chinese "get your butts ready."

While he is spanking the employees, he asks them why they did not try hard or "exceed themselves" during the training session.

One employee trainee answers that they "failed to make a personal breakthrough" but gets no reprieve from the hard wood.

The incident took place at a rural bank in Changzhi, northern China and two executives from the Chinese bank have reportedly been suspended from their job.

The People's Daily newspaper in China wrote:

"The announcement made by the Shanxi Rural Credit Cooperatives said that this was a Breakthrough in Performance training session for their employees. The trainers were hired from Hongfeng Leadership Academy in Shanghai. One of the trainers graded their performance on June 18, and punished those who ranked bottom by spanking and cutting hair" (see here).
