Florida rescuers have recovered the body of the two-year-old boy attacked by an alligator on the edge of a man-made lake at a Disney resort hotel, authorities said Wednesday.
"His body was completely intact... The body has now been turned over to the Orange County medical office for an autopsy," Sheriff Jerry Demings told reporters.
The boy was dragged underwater late Tuesday by the gator, despite his father's desperate attempts to save him.
Demings said it appeared that the gator pulled the child into deeper water and drowned him, leaving the body near the spot where he was last seen.
The boy's parents were identified as Matt and Melissa Graves from a suburban area of Omaha, Nebraska.
Disney World closed beaches around Seven Seas Lagoon during the search, and it was not immediately clear when the beaches would reopen.
While "no swimming'' signs are posted at the beach where the boy was attacked, no signs warn about alligators.
SURPRISED THAT ALLIGATORS LIVE IN ARTIFICIAL LAKE
Some visitors were surprised to learn that alligators lived on the property.
The sheriff said the company has a wildlife management system and has "worked diligently to ensure their guests are not unduly exposed to wildlife here in this area.''
Witnesses estimated the alligator was 4 feet to 7 feet long.
FOUND FIVE GATORS IN LAKE DURING SEARCH
Crews removed five gators from the lake during the search, and officials said one could have been the animal that attacked the boy.
The lake stretches over about 200 acres and reaches a depth of 14 feet.
It feeds into a series of canals that wind through the entire Disney property.
FATAL GATOR ATTACKS RARE
Though Florida has grown to the nation's third-most populous state in the US, fatal alligator attacks remain rare.
Florida's gator population is estimated at 1 million.
Since 1973, 23 people had been killed by wild alligators in Florida, according to data compiled by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This boy makes 24.

A two year old boy who was dragged into the water Tuesday night by an alligator at a Disney hotel near Orlando is still missing early Wednesday morning.
The boy was wading in the water at the edge of the hotel's Seven Seas Lagoon while his family relaxed in the sandy area nearby.
When the father saw the alligator grab his child, he jumped in and tried to wrestle his son away from the alligator's mouth.
RESCUE EFFORT
Many emergency vehicles were parked along the beach and the beach itself was cordoned off.
A helicopter with a search light searched the lagoon.
Disney employees ushered people away from sidewalks overlooking the beach.
A 50-person rescue team was at the scene.
A dive team with sonar equipment was on standby.
The Florida government Department of Fish and Wildlife deployed an alligator trapper and aimed to locate the child and trap the alligator.
Despite all the rescue efforts, the child could still not be found after several hours of search.
The Orange County Sheriff vowed not to leave until they recovered the child.
There is no record of similar incidents in this particular area.
