The families and friends of Thanthaphat Horsaengchai and Kritsana Thaworn gathered at temples on Saturday to bid farewell to the two car crash victims as pressure mounted on police to deal with the high-profile case.

The body of Thanthaphat, or Benz, was cremated at Wat Thawi Karanan in Khlong Luang district in Pathum Thani, while the cremation rite for Kritsana, nicknamed Kai Tong, was held at Wat Yao Bon in his home district of Khlung in Chanthaburi. The two rites were royally sponsored.

The two graduate students of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University were killed on Sunday when a Mercedes-Benz driven by Janepob Veeraporn slammed into their car in Bang Pa-in district in Ayutthaya.

Thanthatphat's father Thiwakorn on Friday called for justice for his daughter. He repeated the message on Saturday at the temple, pleading with police handling the investigation to let justice prevail. Her mother Kalomrat said with tears in her eyes that her heart had been shattered by the loss.

The driver's father, Jetsada, attended the ceremony at the temple in Pathum Thani and refused to say anything to reporters. He has said earlier on several occasions that he respected the law.

Deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen apologised to Thanthaphat's parents at the temple over the slow progress of police in the early stages of the case and pledged that wrongdoing would be punished.

Some of Thanthaphat's ashes will be floated out to sea in Satthahip district in Chon Buri and some will be released to the Ganges River in India in accordance with her wishes.

At Wat Yao Bon in Chanthaburi, the temple was also packed by the family and friends of Kritsana. His parents refused to talk to the media but his younger sister Nonkarat said family members now were focusing on the ceremony and had appointed a lawyer to act on their behalf. She thanked the public for their support and said the family was somewhat satisfied with the police investigation.

Janepob was charged with reckless driving causing death, which carries a jail term up to 10 years.
