This week a motorcycle suddenly burst into flames at a Chiang Mai gas station as the gas station attendant began filling it up with fuel.

The quick-thinking gas station attendant quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher, sprayed the motorycle and put out the fire.

The video quickly went viral on social media.

"How could this happen?" netizens wondered.

Don't leave your mobile phone charging in the compartment under your motorcycle seat.

An incoming call while a phone is charging could trigger a spark.

A spark could react with flammable fumes igniting the motorcycle and setting it on fire.

A simple motorcycle could be transformed into a bomb (deadly explosive device) in a matter of seconds.

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ISSUE STERN WARNINGS

Government officials jumped into action after the incident.

Director-general of the Energy Policy and Planning Office, also spokesman for the Ministry of Energy, warned motorists to switch off their mobile phones when filling up with fuel or when coming into contact with automotive gases.

Motorists should also turn off any electronic device that could trigger a spark, he added.

The posting of signs requesting that all motorists switch off engines, extinguish cigarettes and refrain from using mobile phones at gas stations while filling their vehicle with fuel as been ordered by the Ministry of Energy.
