1 dead, 5 hurt in Bangkok high-rise fire

One person was killed and five injured when fire raged through a 10 storey building in Bangkok’s Yannawa district on Friday.

The blaze broke out around 10.30am on the eighth floor of the tower on Soi Narathiwat Ratchanakharin 18 and spread quickly to upper storeys as firemen rushed to the scene near the Chan intersection.

The fire was contained at around 1pm, with cracks visible on the structure.

It has been declared a danger zone in fear of collapse due to fire damage and water inundation.

The building is the residence of the family and relatives of Vikrom Aisiri, a former Democrat MP and owner of Phuket Air. 

Six fire trucks and two ladder trucks were sent to the scene. Once the blaze was out, put one person was confirmed dead and five hurt.

FIRE UPDATE #1

Death & injuries reported

As of 12:30 the fire was reported to be under control.

Initial, unofficial, reports, say there has been at least one, and possibly two and possibly three dead, with up to ten injured.

A police helicopter arrived at the scene but the black smoke issuing from the building reportedly prevented any attempt to rescue occupants from the fire.

The building is said to be the residence of the 30-member family of former Democrat MP Wikrom Aisiri

Angkhana Aisiri was seen shouting for help from the seventh floor and collapsed before the fire engine could reach the seventh floor with its ladder.

Another man broke his legs after jumping from the third floor.
 
Two people reportedly were suffering from smoke inhalation and rushed to the hospital.

A child with burns on the head was also reportedly been brought to the hospital.

At least one person is believed to have been killed and others trapped by a fire raging in a 10 storey building in the Sathorn Road area of Bangkok (Yannawa district) on Friday.

The blaze broke out around 10.30am on the eighth floor of the tower on Soi Narathiwat Ratchanakharin 18 and spread quickly to upper storeys as firefighters rushed to the scene near the Chan intersection, police said.

First spotted on the third floor, the fire quickly spread to upper floors spewing out black smoke.

The seventh floor of the building was said to have collapsed due to heat.

People in the upper floors were seen waving for help with many trapped on the deck of the building.

Six fire engines and two ladder trucks were sent to the scene.

There were reports that the body of a dead woman was seen on the seventh floor but firefighters were still unable to reach her due to the raging fire.

Police feared other people might be trapped in the building's elevator.

There were reports that people were still inside, trapped on the building's sixth to eight floors.

Police and rescue workers were trying to reach them.

A helicopter has been sent to help occupants of the building.
