The 'Siam Gangster' arrested & whacked on head (with video)

After random acts of violence against strangers at Siam Paragon mall & on subway, so-called Siam Gangster tracked down, arrested & whacked on his head at police press conference.

Siam Gangster arrested: Police track down man behind attacks on strangers

"Can Thai police help ordinary citizens like us," one netizen wrote in a comment on two bizarre attacks on strangers in public places by a mystery man dubbed the "Siam Gangster" or "Mafia Siam" (เธกเธฒเน€เธเธตเธขเธชเธขเธฒเธก).

The first victim of the Siam Gangster was a child and the second a woman.

This led one netizen to comment: "Hitting women? Picking on children? What a coward and a weakling. Put him in the ring [ boxing ring ] for 3 minutes with another adult male and watch him cry like a baby."

It turns out that the so-called Siam Gangster is not really of Siam at all. After his arrest Weerapan Inthawong 38, was identified as a Laos national who entered Thailand illegally and lived in the Silom area. (see here and here).

Social media mobilisation of support for the crime victim finally resulted in the arrest of the culprit today, seen here getting whacked on the head at a police news conference after his arrest:

SUBWAY ATTACK

On September 4, he punched a woman in the eye and kicked her, after they bumped into each other as they entered an MRT subway train.

The man told her friend that she stepped on his foot and refused to apologise.

The Pantip web forum thread entitled "My female friend got punched on MRT" served as a social media rallying point for witnesses to share photos and evidence.

The friend's version of events ran as follows, at about 7:30am on Friday, "While my friend was entering the train, a man bumped into her at her side, so she avoided him. Then he started insulting her. She looked at him, and he said 'What are you smiling at?' The guy then pushed her and accused her of stepping on his feet. He beat her and then he hung onto a pole and tried to kick her!" (translation of forum thread from Coconuts Bangkok here)

SIAM PARAGON INCIDENT

In a prior incident, on Aug 12 at the Siam Paragon luxury shopping mall, the man hit a teenager in the head with a water bottle apparently because he thought the boy and his girlfriend were looking at him and talking about his shirt.

The man told the teenagers that he was the owner of a gambling den in Pratunam and they should not mess with him.

The victims in both incidents informed police and security personnel, but no action was immediately taken.

Social media users demanded that police hunt down and prosecute this so-called 'Siamese gangster' who was caught on camera bullying and assaulting people in public.

He also allegedly stole a woman's purse last year while pretending to be a Singaporean tourist.
