Thai American Timothy DeLaGhetto (Tim Chantarangsu) has built up a following of millions with his rather naughty comedy talk-show on YouTube. English learners should probably avoid repeating much of what he says.
YouTube stars come to Bangkok
Quick: Do you recognise any of these names?
Bethany Mota. Timothy DeLaGhetto (maybe you know him as Tim Chantarangsu). Kurt Hugo Schneider. Sam Tsui
Most people, like me for example, will probably draw a blank. You won't recognise any of them. But if you are a genuine YouTube fan, you might know at least one of them.
This beauty tips video by Bethany Mota has over 10 million views on YouTube.
They have all found success on YouTube, not quite as much as Justin Bieber – yet – but they have millions of followers. And they will be in Bangkok tomorrow, together with quite a few local Youtube stars.
Here's the story (from today's Life section of the Bangkok Post):
YouTube FanFest comes to town
YouTube stars from around the world will gather for the first “YouTube FanFest in Thailand” at the Muang Thai GMM Live House, 8th floor of CentralWorld, tomorrow from 7-9.30pm.
The exclusive live show will bring some of YouTube’s biggest global creators, artists and influencers, as well as local online stars and up-and-coming talent on stage before 1,785 Thai fans for the first time.
The stellar line-up will feature a mix of 17 music, comedy, dance and beauty creators, including American YouTube stars Bethany Mota, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Kurt Hugo Schneider and Sam Tsui, as well as local sensations Pearypie, Ploy Chompoo, Cocktail, GTH, The Voice Thailand and Spokedark TV.
YouTube FanFest allows fans to meet their internet heroes in person. First launched in Singapore in May 2013, the event has since taken Asia-Pacific by storm.
Held as part of the YouTube FanFest 2015 tour, which kicked off in Mumbai in March and stopped at Singapore last weekend, the Bangkok debut show coincides with YouTube’s first anniversary in Thailand. YouTube FanFest 2015 will then head off to Korea, Australia, Japan and other yet-to-be announced stops in Asia.
