Monster stingray caught in Thailand: Big as car
Last week, what could be the biggest freshwater fish ever caught was caught in Thailand.
The fish was as big as a car at 4.3 metres and 2.4 metres wide and weighing an estimated 270 kilograms to 360 kilograms.
It took over five hours for fishermen to finally capture the giant fish .
The world's leading specialist on this species of animal, the Thai Dr Nantarika Chansue, was also part of the team.
The current world record holder for largest freshwater fish ever caught is a 314-kilogram catfish caught in Thailand in 2005.
The fish was caught by a team led by Jeff Corwin, host of very popular TV shows on the Animal Planet TV channel in the US (See his facebook here)
The entire story will be featured in an episode of the Ocean Mysteries television show on the ABC television network in the US.
The fish was caught for research purposes, not to eat, and was later released back into the river to continue its life.
