POST REPORTERS

A 38-year-old woman who was found badly beaten at a golf course in Samut Prakan’s Bang Bo district on Friday and claimed she was kidnapped has been charged with filing a false police report.

Chanita Kinnis yesterday admitted she colluded with Mek Cheocheen, 24, to make up a story that she was abducted to try and gain attention from her ex-boyfriend, identified as “New”, national police chief Somyot Pumpunmuang said.

Mr Mek was apprehended yesterday in front of the Rattanasak Hotel in Kamphaeng Phet, police said.
Ms Chanita earlier claimed that two men abducted her from in front of Central Ram Intra department store in Bangkok and demanded a 300,000-baht ransom from her ex-boyfriend.

She said the gang intended to kill her because she was wealthy and had close ties to ex-Central Investigation Bureau chief Pongpat Chayapan. The abductors allegedly assaulted her and left her for dead at a golf course in Samut Prakan.

However, CCTV footage from the store showed that Ms Chanita was not forced into a taxi. She got in of her own free will, a policeman who examined the camera footage said.

Mr Mek told police he met Ms Chanita through the Line messaging service three days before the incident took place.

Provincial Police Region 1 commander Pol Lt Gen Amnuay Nimmano said Mr Mek told investigators he was paid 50,000 baht by Ms Chanita to hit her and seek a ransom from her ex-boyfriend.

Her boyfriend New ignored the messages and did not pay.

Police said Ms Chanita also said she did not know disgraced former CIB chief Pongpat. The pair could face a jail term of up to six months and a fine of up to 1,000 baht.
