Apple has filed a patent for a bendable phone screen with eery similarity to the bendable iPhone 6 last September ... but Samsung & LG already have bendable screen phones.

Apple really does have a bendable phone, at least in the works, as shown by a recent patent filing.

Apple's amazing but secret bendable iPhone?

Apple has been granted a patent for a bendable phone, it has been revealed.

In fact, LG already has a bendable phone called the G Flex but it can only bend a little bit. Samsung will reportedly offer an extremely bendable screen in 2015, that can be bent in half.

When the iPhone 6 hit the market last September, a controversy arose when many iPhones were found to have bent under pressure when kept in the owner's pocket (Bendgate).

Now it appears that flexibility may actually be something good and not bad, as originally thought. Flexibility is said to improve the phone's durability and resistance to damage when dropped, the flexibility helping to absorb the impact, as well as providing a higher quality screen image for viewing. 

Yet another use for flexibility is said to provide another way to issue a command to the device by squeezing the device (force-based gesture input). 

Apple's US Patent No. 8,929,085 is for "flexible electronic devices," and covers both the insides and outer bendable case for a phone. Apple already holds patents for bendable phone parts but it wasn't until today that it had a patent that brought these parts together into a functional phone.

Apple files thousands of patents (patent filings) and they are not all for creating actual products that it intends to produce and sell, many patents are filed as a part of corporate strategy, to prevent potential competitors from producing products or sueing them to make it difficult for them to do business.
