Khamphai Nupong, a national artist in the field of performing arts, died on Tuesday morning of old age in Nan province. He was 90.
Pho Khru Khamphai was born on May 19, 1924 at Ban Hua Na in tambon Thai Nao of Nan's Phu Phiang district.
He was a musician who performed northern Thai folk music and had expertise in playing the fiddle ( expert fiddler ), and a composer of folk songs.
He was named an honourable person with outstanding works in art and culture in 1990 and a national artist in the field of performing arts (folk songs and fiddle) in 1995.
