The Transport Ministry has allocated five car parking zones around the capital for commuters travelling into the inner areas on Monday during the so-called Bangkok shutdown.
A total of 36 spots will be set aside for the car parks, which should accommodate nearly 18,000 cars, permanent secretary for transport Somchai Siriwattanachok said after a meeting of transport agencies on Wednesday.
Mr Somchai said the Marine Department will add 20 round trips of Chao Phraya express boats to the 70 a day now running.
The airport rail link and subway services could be extended from midnight to 2am if demand is high, he added.
Marine Department director-general Sornsak Saensombat said he would ask boat operators to increase the frequency of services on Khlong Saen Saep and the Chao Phraya River.
Special boat trips will be operated from seven jetties at Pakkred, Thanam Non, Rama V, Rama VII, Kiakkai, Wang Lang and Sathon, where public buses will be arranged to transport commuters to connect with other public transport services, he said.
He said the number of commuters on Khlong Saen Saep during the Bangkok shutdown protest is expected to increase by 40,000 people from 60,000, particularly the route from Sathon to Rat Burana and to Dao Khanong.
