A guard from the the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand was shot and killed at about 3:20am and three others were injured.
The shooting took place near the anti-government protest site at Chamai Maruchet bridge, near Government House.
Initial indications are that bullet casings found at the scene point to an M16 rifle as the weapon used in the shooting. The casings have been turned over to police for investigation, TNN reported.
AFP reports the dead man was in his thirties. An Erawan emergency centre spokesman said he had been shot in the torso.
The shooter was reported to have escaped in an unidentified car.
