More than 1,000 dog skulls have been discovered on a vacant area used as a garbage dump in Ayutthaya province, raising suspicions that the meat could have been used to make meat balls, a report said on Thursday.
The skulls were found when firefighters tried to put out a blaze at the dump site, near a village in Wang Noi district
According to locals, garbage trucks regularly unload trash onto the empty plot of land, which has a "for sale" sign posted on it
They said the skulls were likely discarded by a meatball manufacturer who then set the area on fire to destroy the evidence.
If the fire had not broken out, the dog skulls would not have been discovered, villagers said.
