The cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order on Tuesday morning concluded a special meeting on extending an invitation to the new King to take the throne, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said.

The meeting took about one hour at Government House.

Authorities would have an audience with HRH the Crown Prince on Thursday, said Gen Prawit who is also the defence minister.

The National Legislative Assembly was expected to acknowledge the resolution on the succession to the throne of King Rama X later on Tuesday. Officials at the parliament, the venue of the NLA, dressed in white.

The National Legislative Assembly met on Tuesday to acknowledge the accession to the throne by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as the country's 10th king of the Chakri Dynasty reign.

The acknowledgment was in line with Section 23 of the nullified 2007 charter, whose chapter about the monarch remains in effect.

The section says if the King has appointed His Heir to the Throne, the cabinet will notify the NLA president, who will seek an acknowledgment from the assembly. The NLA president will then invite the Heir to ascend the Throne and proclaim him King.
